Fantastic Friday

Every Friday is a Fantastic Friday!

At Foston CE School, we believe that the academic life of our school should include much more than what happens in the main stream curriculum.

At both Foston and Terrington schools we have an Enhancement Day on a Friday - known as Fantastic Friday!

The school have researched the impacts of alternative timetabling and the findings were that academic studies undertaken during four days of the week, followed up by a creative enhancement day leads to increased progress and attainment for all.

As a result of this, our timetable now involves more exciting curriculum enhancements on Fantastic Fridays.  On Fridays we offer a wide range of experiences and challenges that enrich our curriculum.  This is to ensure that our children are inspired to learn and to provide our children with first-hand, memorable experiences, invaluable to their learning.

Each Friday morning the children take part in whole school problem solving maths and drama activities, led by Audrie Woodhouse. In the afternoon children select workshops in advance, run by staff from across both schools throughout the year. Workshops change half termly and staff will move across schools when required so they can share their strengths with all children. Examples of workshops we have completed are:

Dance, Jumba, Roman battles, history of weapons, cooking, sewing, recorders, CSI to name a few.

At the end of every half term we take the children on an enhancement school trip. Some of the places we have visited include: a trampoline park, indoor climbing and  a theatre. Alongside this we have enhanced our PE provision by investing in new playground equipment, workshops for children to experience archery, Go-Karting and Golf.

Autumn 2018 First Half Term

This half term the children will be in class groups for their Fantastic Friday Workshops. One workshop will be PE based and the other is Design and Technology.

  • Mr Danny Lamb from Total Sports, an experienced sports coach, will be leading the PE sessions with the children until half term and Miss Thompson from Terrington will be supporting him during the sessions. All children will therefore need PE kits on a Friday afternoon, including nursery children.
  • Miss Midwood will be leading the DT workshops with Mrs Patience’s support.

On a Friday morning the children will continue to have drama lessons led by Audrie Woodhouse. This was a huge success last year and the children made massive progress with their speaking and listening skills, confidence and drama skills.
